Styling Secrets: Monochrome Outfits

Black, white, and grey. My go to's, uniform, and favorite colors. Although I do love incorporating color into my outfits, more often than not I will be wearing a combination of this greyscale. However, even though one color range can seem boring, there are a couple of tricks I use to make sure the outfits are still interesting and chic.

One of my favorite ways is including a print. This way you still get the effect of adding something bold without overdoing it. Another great touch is picking pieces with different cuts and silhouettes. Because the colors are basic but you have the unexpected touches, this combo is a sure way to look effortlessly cool. My last tip is to have some fun with your makeup and accessories, because with a colorless base, why not?!

Here are a few outfits showing what I mean:

This outfit is prime of comfy cute. These striped pants from Nordstrom Rack feel like pajamas and I couldn't be more about it. To do something a little different than a normal black tank, I added this black tube top from Nordstrom Rack as well which is also extremely comfortable. I threw on a grey and white sweater as a little touch for when it gets chilly in class! And of course, can't forget about the hoops which are always a staple.

This outfit is a great example of what I mean by print and cut. I am absolutely in love with this top from Nordstrom Rack , the sleeves and the wrap around bow with the print have the perfect combination of over the top and chic with the simple colors. I wanted to keep the look more casual, as this top can get dressy pretty quickly and paired it with my distressed black jeans from 7 For All Mankind and kept the jewlery simple with my stella dot circle necklace.

This outfit is a great example of how to notch up your basics. I paired my white sweater from forever 21 with my black trousers from Nordstrom Rack, and for those chiller days I have my grey jacket from Anthropologie in hand. The only effort I really put into this look was spending a couple extra minutes on some colorful makeup, and added these gorgeous silver earrings from tjmaxx to add some flare.

This outfit is another great example of how the most basic outfit can be elevated with the cut of your pieces. This tank from free people has this really cool and different neckline, which definitely makes it my new go to. I kept it going with the different cut by pairing the tank with these silk black coullotes from Nordstrom Rack. For the accessories, I again kept these more fun by throwing on my Steve Madden printed slides and my Henri Bendel silver stud necklace.

And with that, I hope you got just a tad bit more of fashion inspiration on how to wear your basic colors without being basic!

Until next time,
